This post is for lodging information the Friday night before the event and the Saturday night after the event.
Some Spring Park event attendees will be staying at the Camp Chowenwaw campsites for lodging on Friday night before the Saturday, August 5th, 2023 event, and some will stay at the campsites the night AFTER the August 5th Spring Park event. The campsite lodging is eight miles away from the main August 5th event at Spring Park (linked in orange above).
On Friday, August 4th, 2023, many of us will be camping and having a campfire/ marshmallow roast in the evening in the Awanesa area of the campground. Join us the night before the main event for campfire stories and fun.
Cabin lodging is available for Friday, August 4th, and Saturday, August 5th, for Spring Park event attendees, and they are $50 a night. The cabins sleep four and are air-conditioned. Cabins can be reserved as follows:
The Awanesa cabins have been reserved for our group, and some are available as of June 17th, 2023. Please look at the campground website below in orange to look at the cabins we have reserved. To pay for the Awanesa cabins, please DM me on Twitter @Amothersanthem or leave a comment below if you need to reserve one of the Awanesa cabins we have set aside; these will need to be paid via the give-send-go.
Other cabins in the campground are available through the campground as of today, June 17th, 2023. The campground contact information is found in orange letters below.
For cabins other than Awanesa, you will need to contact the campground directly to reserve them. Everyone will join up near the Awanesa cabins for the campfire and potluck/cookout on the night of August 4th.
FOOD for Friday NIGHT campers: For the Friday night campground and campfire (not the main event at the park Saturday), bring a cooler, paper plates, and utensils to share a meal potluck style with the campers in the group, or see the post for nearby restaurants to bring your own food in. Bring lawn chairs (if you like), and make sure you have read all the information on this page and the campsite webpage (links below), as you need to bring towels and linens, etc.

Info from the Campsite website: “Camp Chowenwaw (Cho’-wen-waw) is a beautiful 150-acre recreation site on Black Creek, located in Green Cove Springs near its confluence with the St. Johns River. The park offers camping, event facilities, hiking, fishing, kayak access, volleyball court, picnic areas, seasonal pool, museum, nature center, and a playground.
In 2006, Clay County purchased the camp from the Girl Scouts of the Gateway Council with assistance from Florida Communities Trust using Florida Forever funds. The camp is now managed to preserve its historical and natural resources while offering recreational opportunities.
The Girl Scout Council of Duval County operated the site as a camp for over 70 years beginning in 1933. Camp Chowenwaw played an important role in the lives of three generations of young women in Northeast Florida.
Come and discover a hidden gem of Clay County!”
More Info: Bring a rolling cart or wagon to carry your camping supplies, linens, etc. See more on the website, where it says, “Cabins and tent sites are accessed by walking trails. Push carts are available to transport gear. Visitors are responsible for bringing their own linens, cookware, and dishes. Camping-style mattresses are provided in cabins and treehouses. RV or car camping is not permitted in the park.”
